2013 RESEARCH PAPER GUIDELINES & TOPICS

RESEARCH PAPER GUIDELINES & TOPICS

Our Theme: “People, Places, Things, and Ideas of the past 100 years”.  Students will pick 1 person, place, thing, or idea from the last 100 years to research and learn about.

Team Guideline:
--  Students work in collaborative team of 2 - 4 students.
--  Each student must research and write.
--  Teams will grade each other. 

--  Team grade counts for significant portion of grade
--  Team must set a library date and meet at library within the first 3 days of project.

Research Guideline:

Ø  Categories of research:
o   Technology
o   Art
o   Science
o   Business
o   Culture
o   War

Project will consist of the following:

  • A written research paper with a topic (minimum of 6 pages double-spaced)
    • For example: How the Internet changed the way we communicate.
  • A written bibliography in MLA format.
  • A formal oral presentation with an adjoining Power Point presentation to an audience to be determined by me & View Park Prep Administration.
  • ***An optional extra credit creative piece in the form of art, dance, prop, etc***.
 
Report Guidelines:
·       Report must be 6-10 pages, typed in MLA format (12 font, double spaced, times new roman)
·       Student must use no less than 5 sources. Using several sources is encouraged.
o   2 or more books
o   1 magazine or newspaper article
o   2 Internet articles limit.
·       Research paper must contain the following:
o   Title page
o   Table of contents
o   6 page written report
o   Bibliography
o   Appendix showing illustrations
·       Power Point Presentation
o   6-10 Slides that include key points and pictures

Time-line & Deliverables:
·       Student must show the following items to prove that they have gone through the proper process. Each part must be typed, except for the detailed notes. Each item will be scored and count towards final grade:
o   Brainstorm of possible research topics and finalized group selection (Due May 21, 2013)
o   Finalized topic choice, Individual Focus & List of Internet Sources (Due May 22, 2013)
o   Detailed Outline (Due May 24, 2012)

-       Detailed Note Cards (Due May 27, 2013)

o   *** Rough Draft*** must be E-mailed to nunley.damion@gmail.com (Due by11:59pm May 28, 2013)
o   Final Draft (Due May 30, 2013)
o   Presentations (Due May 30 & 31, 2013)
